WHO ARE OPTIMIST RACERS?
Optimist Racers are youth ages 9-13, who want to learn about the exciting sport of sailboat racing. The Optimist Race Team is an exciting opportunity to fully experience the fun and challenge of sailing at a higher level. Opti Racers have taken the Opti Cruisers Class, have shown the ability to handle the boat independently, and are interested in sailboat racing.
MORE SPECIFICS:
Students will improve racing concepts including starts, upwind and downwind sailing, as well as boat trim for speed, racing rules, strategy, tactics, and more.
We encourage sailors to register for multiple sessions and participate in the popular Twin Cities Youth Sailing regattas on Fridays. MSC provides Optis and coach support for the TCYS regattas. Regatta entry fees and transportation are not included.
WHAT’S NEXT?
Opti racers should stay in Opti race camp until they are ready for 420 Cruisers or 420 Intro to Race.
